Special Event: Beyond the Niseko Boundary vol. 2

Always be prepared when going out into the Niseko Backcountry

Special Event: Beyond the Niseko Boundary vol. 2

Join Hokkaido’s most experienced Mountain Guide in this special Niseko backcountry event. Following the success of the first edition last year, this event will be held again for the 2018-2019 winter season.

Beyond the Niseko Boundary vol.2 is a 3-day camp that will introduce you to the snow and backcountry conditions specific to the Niseko area. Mountain terrain and snow conditions in different countries are never the same. Weather patterns, snowpack and specific terrain – all of them change from one country to another. And the Niseko backcountry is no different.

Led by UIAGM and JFMGA accredited mountain guide, Cveto Podlogar, you will gain in-depth knowledge about the Niseko backcountry territory. Participants will cover a wide range of topics in both indoor and outdoor sessions including:

  • examining the terrain and snowpack
  • reading area maps
  • learning to plan a backcountry trip
  • spotting danger zones and risk preparation

At the end of the 3 days, you will bring everything together you have learnt as you and the group are left to plan and execute a full-day backcountry guiding trip. This is not a general avalanche skills training course on avalanche awareness and safety. This camp will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to conquer the backcountry beyond the Niseko Boundary – from a local’s perspective.
